Cosa fare a Singapore.

Cosa fare a Singapore. Although in Singapore there are still “ridiculous” restrictions such as the ones of chewing gum or crossing the street outside of the crosswalk, and there is still a strong control over the private lives of the inhabitants, the government has at least stopped hassling people with fines. Once very wary of foreigners, Singapore is now open to the world and visiting it is a great opportunity. Behind the high and spectacular skyscrapers, which are common to other Asian cities, Singapore hides many ancient traditions and a long history that is nice to rediscover walking through the streets of its traditional districts. Extraordinary and cosmopolitan than ever, this city-state with its contradictions, its good food, its mix of modernity and tradition surprised me unexpectedly.

Day one: just landed, after a quik stop at our hotel, we run directly to the Botanical Gardens to visit one of the largest exhibitions of orchids (my favorite flower) in the world. In the afternoon we have a long walk in Orchard Road, the biggest shopping area of the island, here the malls and shops follow one another without interruption. We spend the evening at Marina Bay, the nerve center of the new Singapore. The bay is dominated by the huge hotel/casino Marina Bay Sands (three skyscrapers with a ship resting above), the view from here is crazy! A visit to the Gardens by the Bay and their futuristic installations and a ride on the Ferris wheel are a must.

Day two: This morning is dedicated to the discovery of the vibrant Arab district, full of local shops and cafes that offer shisha and delicacies of Middle Eastern cuisine. Immediately after we visit Little India with its bright colors, scents of incense and endless shops selling everything (the most famous is the Mustafa Centre, an incredible place). In the afternoon, a trip to the Zoo. Honestly worth a visit just the Fragile Forest, a large dome where lemurs, rodents, bats, flying foxes roam freely. The rest of the animals, even if they are well treated, are in cages, and this is not for me. We spend the evening at Clarke Quay the center of the Singapore nightlife.

Day Three: this morning armed with hiking shoes and water bottles, we move to the MacRitchie Reservoir, a forest crossed by miles of trails where you can spot monkeys, monitor lizards, pythons (help!) and flying lemurs and take the Treetop, a walkway suspended between the tops of the trees (great!). We walked for about 12 km and it has been one of the most beautiful experiences I had in Singapore. By mid-afternoon we are in in China Town, a place rich in history, important worship centers and shops that sell everything, as only the Chinese can do! And how many colors, joie de vivre and good street food…
